MORE TO COME FROM ME – OBAFEMI

Swansea City striker Michael Obafemi has told the fans to expect more from him ahead of next season after his strong end to the just concluded English Championship season. The former Southampton player talked about what to expect him in a chat with the Swansea City website.


Republic of Ireland international Obafemi struggled for goals in the opening weeks of his Swansea City career following his move from Premier League club Southampton last summer. The Welsh team paid around £2m to secure his transfer from the Saints. Obafemi signed a three-year deal with the Swans until 2024. He scored just once at Swansea City until February 2022 at the start of his career in Wales. The goal came during the 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City in October 2021. Irish striker Obafemi finished the season as one of the most in-form players in the Championship. He scored 11 goals in his last 19 games for his team. SOUTHAMPTON SUFFER SECOND SUCCESSIVE LEAGUE DEFEAT

Southampton have now lost their last two Premier League games after they were beaten by Newcastle United in their rescheduled game at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Thursday night. The Saints were on a good run of five games without defeat in the league before the two-game losing run started at Villa Park last weekend.


Ralph Hassenhuttl and his Southampton players began the impressive run of five unbeaten league games after they tasted defeat at Wolves. Raul Jimenez (penalty), ConorCoady and substitute AdamaTraore scored the Wolves goal in the 3-1 home win over the Saints with James Ward-Prowse getting the Southampton goal via a long-range free-kick. They then went on an unbeaten run against teams such as league leaders Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Norwich City and Everton. SOUTHAMPTON LEADING RACE FOR TEENAGE SENSATION

 

Premier League outfit Southampton are reportedly leading the race to sign teenage sensation Mohamed-Ali Cho. The Sun reported that the Saints are surprisingly at the forefront of the race to sign the teenage sensation who has been turning heads in the French Ligue 1 this season. The Southampton target has already made 41 appearances in the French top flight.

Cho, 17, has impressed with hisskillful displays and speed. He has parents based in both France and England. The teenager was in the PSG Academy before he spent five years in the youth teams at Merseyside giants Everton. He’s presently on the books of Angers in the French top flight. Southampton target Cho featured for England at the under-16 level and has also represented France at the under-21 level.

SAINTS RETURN TO TRAINING AFTER INJURY

Southampton midfielder Will Smallbone has handed the South Coast club a big injury boost after returning to training this week in time for the Premier League trip to face holders Manchester City at the weekend. Smallbone posted a photo of himself online while he was in Southampton training. According to him, it is good to be back after a long injury layoff.

SOUTHAMPTON WANT £8M FOR LEMINA

Newcastle United might need to pay as much as £8m for Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina if they want to sign the Gabonese international during this summer’s transfer window. This is according to the publication via The Athletic which stated that the Saints want the aforementioned transfer fee, add-ons inclusive, if they are to do a deal with the Magpies for the player.

Lemina, 27, is not in the plans of Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl for the new season. To this effect, the Saints are looking to offload him this summer to avoid losing his signature for free when his Saints contract expires next summer.

SAINTS, OTHERS LINKED WITH MORENO

Southampton are one of four British teams interested in a move for Santiago Moreno. Moreno plays his club football for America de Cali in Colombia. The interest of the Saints in the player was revealed via a report from Football Insider.

Spurs and holders City meet in the Carabao Cup final at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday with the former hoping to break a trophyless run spanning 13 years. The last time Spurs won any form of major trophy was at the 2008 League Cup final. They saw off London rivals Chelsea to win the trophy.

SOUTHAMPTON’S JANKEWITZ REPORTEDLY HANDS IN A TRANSFER REQUEST

The fresh reports coming out of the Southampton camp is that teenager Alexandre Jankewitz has finally handed in a transfer request at the Saint Mary’s Stadium. The youngster has grown disgruntled with life at the Saints and no longer sees himself making it to the first team anytime soon.

According to Dan Sheldon, a transfer expert, the player made his interest known to the club and has ordered his representatives to file the transfer request which has now been tabled to the Premier League club. The Athletic has also reported that the teenager, who is highly rated among his peers by his club feels he has not been given enough resources needed to find his way to the first team so far. SOUTHAMPTON WANT TO SIGN GRAY FROM LEICESTER CITY

 

According to various reports, Southampton Football Club want to complete the signing of Leicester City outcast Demarai Gray as they look to offer him a platform to rediscover his form and regain his confidence so he can play some football.

Gray has been restricted to just two appearances in all competitions under manager Brenda Rodgers so far this season and has been deemed surplus to requirements St the club by the former Celtic manager. The Premier League winner with the Foxes will see his contract run out at the end of the season and as things stand, the club will not be offering him a new deal.
