Back in August 2020, Crystal Palace failed to sign Armel Bella-Kotchap after submitting a bid to VfL Bochum, before Southampton wrapped up a deal in June earlier this year. At the time of interest from Crystal Palace, The Athletic claimed the south Londoners and VfL Bochum were not far away from agreeing a fee for the Germany Under-21 international. However, a deal failed to materialise, and Southampton signed the 20-year-old for just £8.6m earlier this summer.

Swansea City striker Michael Obafemi has told the fans to expect more from him ahead of next season after his strong end to the just concluded English Championship season. The former Southampton player talked about what to expect him in a chat with the Swansea City website.
Republic of Ireland international Obafemi struggled for goals in the opening weeks of his Swansea City career following his move from Premier League club Southampton last summer. The Welsh team paid around £2m to secure his transfer from the Saints. Obafemi signed a three-year deal with the Swans until 2024. He scored just once at Swansea City until February 2022 at the start of his career in Wales. The goal came during the 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City in October 2021. Southampton have now lost their last two Premier League games after they were beaten by Newcastle United in their rescheduled game at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Thursday night. The Saints were on a good run of five games without defeat in the league before the two-game losing run started at Villa Park last weekend.
Ralph Hassenhuttl and his Southampton players began the impressive run of five unbeaten league games after they tasted defeat at Wolves. Raul Jimenez (penalty), ConorCoady and substitute AdamaTraore scored the Wolves goal in the 3-1 home win over the Saints with James Ward-Prowse getting the Southampton goal via a long-range free-kick. They then went on an unbeaten run against teams such as league leaders Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Norwich City and Everton. SOUTHAMPTON LEADING RACE FOR TEENAGE SENSATION
Premier League outfit Southampton are reportedly leading the race to sign teenage sensation Mohamed-Ali Cho. The Sun reported that the Saints are surprisingly at the forefront of the race to sign the teenage sensation who has been turning heads in the French Ligue 1 this season. The Southampton target has already made 41 appearances in the French top flight.
Cho, 17, has impressed with hisskillful displays and speed. He has parents based in both France and England. The teenager was in the PSG Academy before he spent five years in the youth teams at Merseyside giants Everton. He’s presently on the books of Angers in the French top flight. Southampton target Cho featured for England at the under-16 level and has also represented France at the under-21 level.

SAINTS RETURN TO TRAINING AFTER INJURY

Southampton midfielder Will Smallbone has handed the South Coast club a big injury boost after returning to training this week in time for the Premier League trip to face holders Manchester City at the weekend. Smallbone posted a photo of himself online while he was in Southampton training. According to him, it is good to be back after a long injury layoff.

Newcastle United might need to pay as much as £8m for Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina if they want to sign the Gabonese international during this summer’s transfer window. This is according to the publication via The Athletic which stated that the Saints want the aforementioned transfer fee, add-ons inclusive, if they are to do a deal with the Magpies for the player.
